The left’s hidden victory in 2004

Although the 2004 election season provided more than one stinging blow to Democrats, in the after-election hubbub many are overlooking one key cultural issue on which the Left is scoring major victories: Embryonic stem cell research.

President Bush’s refusal to allow more federal dollars to be used for research involving human embryos has prompted several states around the country to take action of their own. On November 2, California voters passed Proposition 71 by a comfortable margin, effectively setting a precedent that the nation might never recover from. The measure, backed by Republican-in-name-only (RINO) Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, allocates $3 billion in state government funds to experiments involving the stem cells of human embryos.  Read the rest of this entry »

The silent majority speaks

If anything is evident in the aftermath of the November 2 elections, it’s that evangelical Christians are largely responsible for President Bush’s victory. To the glee of the Bush camp, the 4 million Christian conservatives who failed to show up at the polls in 2000 came out in droves last Tuesday. I don’t think it’s too bold to say they handed President Bush his second term.

According to exit poll data collected by CNN (itself hardly a bastion of conservative moral thought), 22% of voters nationwide named “moral values” as their top issue. Of that figure, 79% backed President Bush. Terrorism was second on the list at 19%. Amazingly enough, the one issue both John Kerry and George Bush continually harped on during their respective campaigns (the war in Iraq) came in at fourth with only 15% of voters citing it as their primary concern.  Read the rest of this entry »
